Householders Against Rushy Mead

Who may be affected?

In Scotland and most of Europe there are guidelines or legislation requiring wind farms to be situated a 'set-back' distance of 1.5 to 2 Kilometers from residents. A proposal was recently rejected at Saline, in Scotland (in Gordon Brown's constituency) because there were 200 houses within a 2 kilometers radius.

The picture above shows, in the red shaded area, all those places within 1.5 Kilometers of the turbines. There are thousands of people living here.

England has no such guidelines or legislation. The best protection we can expect from our law makers at present is that should a turbine fall over there will not be any people immediately underneath it.

A private members bill has been proposed in parliament which would require a 2KM set-back in England. If you want to add you name to the petition also requesting such a set-back distance please follow this link.

The potential effects

  • More noise.
    • According to noise experts turbine noise can be heard under nearby traffic noise.
    • There are few noise reduction measures on this stretch of the M4, so wind turbines will reduce the noise-free times in the late evenings, weekends and holidays, during our leisuretimes
  • Sleep disturbance
  • Adverse effects on health
  • Adverse effect on the landscape and wildlife
  • Extreme adverse effect on house prices
  • Clearly visible from houses in Lower Early, Shinfield, Arborfield, Sindlesham, Winnersh, Wokingham, and as far away as Buckinghamshire.
  • An overbearing effect on all residents of the area
