Object to the planning application now!
The planning application for the wind farm at Rushy Mead has now been submitted to Wokingham Borough Council, you can wade through the details here -F/2010/2266
The deadline for comments is now the end of December. It's important that as many people as possible comment so that the council get an idea of the breadth of feeling about these proposals. Please don't leave it to others - finding out how badly you are affected after permission has been granted will be too late.
The best documents to start with are the non-technical statement and the environmental assessment. Just click on the underlined text to get taken straight to the relevant document. The environmental assessment document is 420 pages long but contains pointers to the other documents such as who will be affected by flicker (about 200 properties in Lower Earley as well as others), PFRs somewhat biased mockups, and all of the detail around the amount of predicted increase in noise. Be aware it is an extremely biased document which seeks to get permission rather than give a totally balanced view.

What can you object to
Not all objections are valid. The list below is by no means complete but is given just to give you some ideas.
- Loss of amenity - activities that currently take place in the surrounding area will no longer be possible due to safety concerns, degraded experience, or health risks. For example, horse riding, rambling, cycling, fishing, etc.
- Visual impact- the proposed development will totally change, adversely, the landscape. The Rushy Mead proposal is completely out of keeping with the area.
- Noise - see the pages under 'health risks' on this web site
- Flicker effect - when one or more of the turbines is between the sun and your house or the byways an extremely unpleasant flicker will be experienced.
- Safety - the turbines are proposed top be placed much closer the byways than currently recommended by the British Horse Society.
- Non compliance with local planning policies - the assessment prepared by PFR only details where they do meet planning criteria. It's for us to point out where they don't.
- Disruption during construction - 23 HGVs per day for 9 months. 6000 tonnes of material left on site.
- Flooding impact - the area is well know for flooding and 2 of the proposed turbines are on the flood plain. Not to mention the foundations for the control rooms and access roads.
- Affects on wildlife
- Incomplete or biased data as part of the proposal
Help in getting started
